Property Creation - New Property

Users can create new properties using various methods, depending upon their active license codes and needs. You can create a new property using the standard SID insert. In ORS, ASP mode, or when the add-on license code OPP_MHOT (Multi-property) is active, you can copy a property and create a new property based on it. Another option is to export a property from another schema into the current schema and create a new property from it. Each is briefly described here with more details that follow.

Creating Properties in the Same Schema

• Within the Opera application, users select Configuration>Property>Property Details>New. The Property Configuration - New screen appears. Using this screen, you can choose to create a property with the standard insert (standard SID data). Or, you may choose to copy an existing property from within the schema and rename and configure it. The existing property to be copied may be an already configured property in the schema or it may be a property shell that was imported from another schema. See Creating a New Property Within Opera.

Exporting a Property From One Schema to Another

• Users can export a property from one schema and import it into another schema. This procedure is done outside the application using the SMT Tool (By default, the SMT is inserted on the application server, in the Tools directory, during Opera installation). The copied property will appear in the Property Selection List screen within the Opera application. It will appear as a Property Shell and will be used as a template for the new property. See Exporting/Importing Property Configuration below.

  Note: For new installs on a blank schema a Supervisor password will be automatically set. Changing the standard Supervisor password remains the responsibility of the customer.

Creating a New Property Within Opera

To create a new property from within the Opera application, access the Property Configuration - New screen. Select Configuration>Property>Property Details>New. The Property Configuration - New screen appears.

Selection Criteria

You have two options when creating a new property from this screen. You can create a new property with standard SID data, or you may copy an existing property in the schema for the new property. You may also copy reports, if desired, from another property.

Property Code. A unique 8-character maximum identifier for the property. The property code enforces upper case characters.

Property Name. The property's full name.

Chain Code. (Visible in ORS or ASP mode) The alphanumeric identifier for the chain.

Chain Name. (Visible in ORS or ASP mode) The name of the chain.

Copy from Property. (Visible in ORS, ASP mode, or when the add-on license code OPP_MHOT (Multi-property) is active) Select this radio button if you want to copy a property in the schema to create a new property. The Property Selection screen appears where you can select an existing property from within the schema or from one that has been imported from another schema. Those properties that have been imported are listed as Shell Property (Yes). The properties in the list that are existing properties are identified as Shell Property (No). Highlight the property and select OK. For information on configuration data that will be copied from the shell property and existing property, refer to Configuration Data Copied, below.

Note: For special considerations regarding copying configuration data from one property to another, refer to Considerations for Copying Configuration Data.

Create Property with standard insert. Select this radio button to create a new property in your schema. After you have completed the required fields on the Property Configuration - New screen, select OK. The appropriate insert SID files will be executed (you will be prompted to continue to add configuration data).  Upon completion, the following message appears.

• To close the message screen, select OK.
• At the Property Configuration - New screen, select Close.
• The Property Configuration - Edit screen, General Tab appears. Proceed to enter the configuration data for the newly created property.

Copy Reports from Property. (Visible in ORS, ASP mode, or when the add-on license code OPP_MHOT (Multi-property)is active) Select this checkbox to copy reports from another property in the multi-property cluster (including any customized reports). When you make this selection, the Property field becomes available. Select the down arrow to display the Property list of values; from this list, choose the property from which you wish to copy reports.

Exporting/Importing Property Configuration

You can export and import the configuration data for a property from one schema into another schema using the Opera SMT Tool. This tool is initially installed on the application server in the Tools directory (Opera.SMT.exe). The configuration data is exported and imported through a Property Shell.

Note: When using the SMT Tool to Export/Import Property Shells, Opera.SMT.exe must be located on the application server.

• Log into the SMT Tool and select Schema Management.

• Select the Property Shells button.  The Opera SMT Export/Import screen appears.

• To begin the export process, select Export Property Shell.  This option will request an Output directory and display a List of Values of all properties residing in the schema.  Select the property to Export Shell. The property will be extracted and create six shell files by calling the existing SID extraction tool. The SID files will then be compressed (zipped) into a single file with an .osh file extension and be placed in the indicated directory.

  Note:  The exported property will also be loaded to the Opera_Shell table.

• To import the property shell into the other schema, select Import Property Shell. This option will provide a directory dialog box indicating the directory where the SHELL PROPERTY.osh file resides, to upload the Property.  The SHELL PROPERTY.osh file will be unzipped and loaded into the Opera_Shell table. The property is now available to be copied from within the Opera application for the creation of a new property. See Creating a New Property Within Opera, below.

Considerations for Copying Configuration Data

Properties Copied from ORS to PMS

• Reservation Types in an Opera PMS are on a Global level, while Reservation Types in an Opera ORS are on a Property level. The Reservation Types that are copied are from the template, as this is the table that exists in PMS.
• Rate Codes will all be externally locked for all rate codes created in ORS.
• Global Preference Types will not be copied as they are not stored in the same table in PMS. There is not a concept of Global Preferences in PMS.
• Application Parameters used at a different level per application will not be exported. Application Parameters will only be exported on a property level.

Importing/Exporting the Opera Property Shell

• The Opera application must be on the same version, including any e-patches, when exporting and importing.  The application will verify the Opera version and not allow an import if there is a version mismatch.
• Template level configuration will not be copied - only the configuration data on the property will be copied.  For example, a Market Code in the Market Codes Template that has not been added to the selected property will not copy, but any Market Code attached to the property will be copied.
• Not all configuration data will be copied from the selected property.  A complete list of the configuration data that will insert into the new property is listed in Configuration Data Copied, below.
• The PROPERTY.osh file that is created during export cannot be renamed. The corresponding files that are zipped into the PROPERTY.osh file verify the file name.
• Copying properties across Opera applications will result in configuration items copying in a different format or data not being copied.
• New properties can be created simultaneously when using an already existing Shell record in the Copy from Property option.
• When creating a property using the Copy from Property option with a property that does not have an existing Shell, another property can't be created simultaneously until the Shell has been created. When this is attempted, the following message is displayed:

  

• If it is decided to refresh the Shell as a copy of an existing property, the following message is displayed:

  

  Select Yes to continue and if No is selected then the a message is displayed stating, "Property shell cannot be loaded while a property is being created, please try again in a few minutes."
